Guidance Curriculum Plan for the 2011-12 School Year

Guidance Curriculum:
The guidance curriculum component consists of structured developmental lessons designed to assist students in achieving the competencies and is presented systematically through classroom and group activities. The purpose of the guidance curriculum is to provide all students the knowledge and skills appropriate for their developmental level.

Individual Student Planning
The individual planning component consists of school counselors coordinating ongoing systemic activities designed to assist the individual student in establishing personal goals and developing future plans.

Responsive Services
The responsive services component consists of activities to meet students’ immediate needs. These needs require counseling, consultation, referral, peer mediation, or information.

Systems Support
The systems support component consists of the professional development, consultation, collaboration and teaming, and program management and operation activities that establish, maintain, and enhance the total school counseling program.

Grade 8

Clark Registration (2nd Semester, Academic Block Classes, 1 Counselor Per Classroom)
Registration PLUS: Review course registration, graduation requirements, grades, summer school, support services, etc.

Clark Parent Night (2nd Semester)
Topic: Welcome, review course registration, graduation requirements, summer school, honors coursework, support services, etc.

Clark Visitation Day (2nd Semester, Academic Seminar Classes)
Topic: Welcome, tour, group activity with counselors. Students meet with their own counselor.

Grade 9

Freshman Guidance Activity (After 12-Week Reporting Period in Fall, English 9 Classes/TBD)
Topic: Study skills, review transcript/report card, graduation requirements, Naviance. Students meet with their own counselor.

Freshman Registration (2nd Semester, English 9 Classes)
Registration PLUS: Review course registration, graduation requirements, grades, summer school, transcript review, career exploration, etc. Students meet with their own counselor.

Grade 10

Sophomore Guidance Activity (1st Semester, World History/TBD)
Topic: Sophomore conference information, review transcript/report card, graduation requirements, Naviance/career activity (“Do What You Are” personality assessment). Students meet with their own counselor.

Sophomore Parent Nights (TBD Multiple Evenings at Multiple Sites – Feeder Schools, CHS, Back to School Night)
Topic: Sophomore conference information, graduation requirements, Naviance (make PowerPoint and recorded session available on website and email through Naviance).

Sophomore Registration (2nd Semester, English 10 Classes)
Registration PLUS: Review course registration, graduation requirements, grades, summer school, transcript review, career exploration, etc. Students meet with their own counselor.

Grade 11

Junior Conference (Includes Career Exploration Component)
Students meet with their own counselor.

Junior Guidance Activity (1st Semester, US History Classes)
Topic: Junior conference information, review transcript/report card, graduation requirements, Naviance/career activity (“Career Interest Profiler” assessment). Students meet with their own counselor.

Junior Registration (2nd Semester, English 11 Classes)
Registration PLUS: Review course registration, graduation requirements, grades, summer school, transcript review, career exploration, etc. Students meet with their own counselor.

Grade 12

Senior Conference (Includes Career Exploration Component)
Students meet with their own counselor.

Senior Guidance Activity (1st Semester, Gov/Econ Classes September 19, 2011)
Topic: Senior conference information, testing information, community college process, college workshops, review transcript/report card, graduation requirements, Naviance/career activity. Students meet with their own counselor.

Post Secondary Options (2nd Semester, May Senior Meetings)
Topic: Adult school, community college, Fresno State, CCC, Americorp, military options.
